GO TO : Our History — Mission and Vision — Meet the Team
Our History…
Founded in 2009 by Helen Boyle OBE, MCF is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization.
It is staffed by a dedicated team of people who organise and manage MCF events and programs, and maintain relationships with under resourced schools and children.
The foundation achieves its aims primarily through providing its main resource: it’s People. It recruits from a wide range of local and international sources, from individuals such as professional teachers and university graduates to major organizations such as international schools, hotels, hospitals, embassies and The Royal Society of Chemistry.
MCF relies on the generosity of all these individuals and organizations to fulfill its mission. MCF provides extra-curricular activities with subjects ranging from Science, Photography, Drama, Music, Horticulture, and more. It is worth noting that these activities are held to the highest standard, so much so that the children participating in the National Chemistry competition in one of the schools won a national competition in 2012. None of this would have been possible without the professional and practical resources provided by a dedicated body of people who are committed to ‘making a lasting difference’.
Of course, there are numerous stories that can be told about how these disadvantaged children have had their experiences broadened by MCF’s programs and the generosity of our sponsors. MCF also believes that a child’s education is closely connected with their wellbeing. Taking a holistic approach, we consider all the barriers that these children face. We recognize that they need to be able to see clearly in order to read, to be healthy in order to learn and to experience a variety of activities in order to broaden their horizons and to reach their full potential.
To this end, in 2013, MCF introduced health checkups and eye tests for the children in the migrant schools that we support. To date, over 6500 children have received a full checkup and over 650 children have received glasses to assist their vision.

Meet the Team
MCF is run by a diverse group of individuals that support our Programs, leading and coordinating the efforts of our generous Friends, managing the day-to-day operations and constantly enhancing the long-term direction of the organisation.
Helen Boyle, OBE. Director and Founder of MCF – helen@mcfchina.org
After 20 years of working in education, a visit to China changed Helen’s life, allowing her to use her experience and passion in a new but challenging way. Her vision for MCF was two-fold: helping disadvantaged children to develop their potential; and bringing together people of all ages and walks of life to make a difference. Everyone has something to give.

He has been awarded both the ‘Friendship Prize’ by the State Council of the PRC in 2001 and an ‘International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the PRC’ in 2005. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and it is in cooperation with the RSC that David gives his time, as not only a Director of MCF but a volunteer too, by running MCF’s Fun With Science
